A cast copper alloy buckle frame of post-medieval date. The buckle is a double looped sub-rectangular shoe buckle with rounded edges and slight internal swellings where the pin would sit. The separate central spindle is iron. The pin is complete, and the chape tapers from the bar, has a narrow waist and then a rounded end. A funghi form button is fixed through the rivet hole at the rounded end. The chape is stamped with the maker's mark: "D [or B or R] / (S)WI(F)T. The buckle is curved in profile, probably suggesting a function as a shoe buckle. Whitehead (1996, page 97, nos 600-601) suggests a date of 1660-1720 for the first such buckles, but the style of script argues this object to be later. The buckle has a smooth green patina. It is 30.9mm long, 22.3mm wide and 6mm thick. 6.27g.

Other buckles with the maker's mark: SWIFT include SUSS-E3D875, NLM-67D785 and LVPL-AFA9E3.
