A complete copper alloy 'beehive' type thimble of late medieval or early post-medieval date, about AD 1400-1600. The thimble is domed with mostly straight sides with a rounded 'tonsure' top. The drilled pits begin at the base of the thimble above a plain rim, spiralling up to the tonsure peak, losing the integrity of the spiral at the shange of angle. The bare circular patch on top of the thimble, or 'tonsure', indicates a relatively early date; similar early thimbles are often dated to the 15th or 16th centuries (Holmes, 1988). Compare BERK-221A67. The thimble is distorted and the rim has cracked. It has a smooth glossy grey green patina. It is 19mm tall, 23.7mm wide and 15.4mm thick. The walls are 1.4mm thick. 8.17g.
