A cast lead ampulla of Medieval date. It is pouch-shaped with an elongated neck and oval shaped opening. To each side of the neck are semi-circular suspension loops that are lozenge shaped in section. Both front and back faces of the ampulla have very worn moulded decoration, one face with a large central area of post-depositional damage. The damaged face has a central motif that appears to be shield shaped and containing now illegible motifs, all within a beaded circular border. On the opposite face is a central circle containing a multifoil with central pellet. The entire object measures 50.29mm in length, 34.14mm in width, 8.11mm in thickness, and weighs 40.47g.
This is a worn lead pilgrim's ampulla of Medieval date. It is likely to belong to the later Medieval period of the 14th or 15th centuries AD, c.1350-1550 AD.
