Roman copper alloy bow brooch of uncertain type, probably T-shaped or allied and of 1st or 2nd century AD date
The brooch is fragmentary, represented by the head only and is diminutive (with a surviving length of 11.9mm, a surviving depth of 5.7mm and a weight of 1.4g). The brooch employed a hinge mechanism, probably in tubular wings, which are now worn and corroded to points (with a surviving width of 12.7mm). The upper bow is of D-shaped section, also heavily worn and corroded to a point (with a width and thickness at the head of 5.0mm and 3.9mm respectively). No decoration or detail survive on either the bow or the wing remnants. The original surface has been lost and is now corroded pale-green to red-brown.
