A cleaned silver Roman denarius of Augustus dating to the period 25-23 BC (Reece Period 1). Mint of Emerita, Spain, and issued by the Legatus Pro Praetore (literally "envoy of the emperor - acting praetor"), P. CARISIVS. The reverse depicts a helmet between a dagger and a bipennis. RIC i (rev.ed.), p.41, no. 7a. BMC 281, RSC 405.

Notes:

Octavian, Caesar's adopted son and heir, was proclaimed Augustus in 27 BC, putting an end to the republican era of Rome. This is only the third example of this issue recorded on the database.
