A copper alloy post medieval shoe or knee buckle dating to the period AD c1660-1720. The buckle comprises a cast copper alloy trapezoidal shaped frame which measures 21.04mm and has been drilled to fit a separate spindle. The pin is corroded in place as is the plate, which is incomplete and missing the stud chape. The frame has concave moulded bifid sides which are flattened at either side and expand towards the spindle attachment and the end bars. The end bars have a central dip to accommodate the pin. The plate is fixed by curling round the spindle and then narrows before expanding at the terminal where the stud was originally inserted.
