Discussion:

Finger rings with very similar marks in the British Museum collections all date AD1682-1709 (1961, 1202.389/ 1961,1202. 286 & AD.1331). The maker's mark appears on a 1682 mark plate at Goldsmiths' Hall, London Column 6, number 83.

As the finger ring is greater than 300 years old and is more than 10% gold it fulfils the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996.

Inscription: Not won by wealth nor forcd by friends/ But faithfull love which never ends
