A cast copper alloy double looped sub-oval buckle of probable later medieval - post medieval date circa AD 1600-1720.

The buckle frame is sub-oval in plan with rounded ends. The buckle consists of a sub oval frame with trefoil sides with a raised ridge either end of the strap bar. The strap bar is narrowed and there is no evidence of a pin rest. The frame of the buckle would probably have been decorated although the design is now unidentifiable, apart from two incised lines on the two opposing edges of the buckle between the inner and outer edges next to the central strap bar. The reverse of the buckle appears to be undecorated although this may also have been lost due to corrosion in the soil. The buckle has a dark grey patina which may be evidence of a silver wash that once covered the buckle. Similar examples to this buckle can be seen in Whitehead (2003: p.70 ref no.440).

The buckle measures 40.6mm long, 27.7mm wide, is 2mm thick at its widest point on the frame and weighs 5.8 grams.
