Copper alloy mount of uncertain date, possibly Roman
The mount is incomplete, broken as it narrows to a shaft (with a surviving length of 11.0mm and a weight of 16.0g). The top face is circular (with a diameter of 22.3mm) and has a slight raised border (0.5mm high). At the centre of the face is an irregular ring (5.8mm diameter) with a crude, off-centre cell. No evidence of enamel is evident within either recessed area. A diagonal chord cuts the face, possibly a casting seam. The underside narrows to the break (where it has a diameter of 9.5mm) and is enhanced with a single incised groove. The surface has a dark-green patina.
The fragmentary state of the mount and lack of diagnostic features makes confident identification difficult, it is possible that the mount is part of a furniture mount of Roman date.
