A complete Medieval cast silver pin from an annular brooch or buckle (c. 1200-c. 1500). Treasure case no. 2015 T23.

This pin has a shaft, collar and loop. The shaft is oval in cross-section and tapers evenly from the collar towards the sharp tip which is 'undercut' above and below for resting on the frame. The collar is oval in cross-section and is stamped with contiguous annulets. There is a butted join at the rear of the circular loop.

The pin is worn and pitted.

27.3mm (length); 3.9mm (width); 3.6mm (thickness). Weight: 1.02g.

Notes:

The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1715. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age.
