A copper-alloy harness pendant hanger, dating from the Medieval period.
The mount takes the form of a truncated cross, the lower vertical arm, which represents the hanger, being significantly shorter than the other three arms. Each of these longer arms is of triangular section, straight-sided and terminates in a perforated lobe with pointed projection at its distal end. The hanger comprises two vertical tabs, separated by a slot, with two opposing perforations for the now-missing axis bar.
Width: 43.4mm; height: 34.2mm; thickness: 5.3mm. Weight: 8.8g.
A parallel for this hanger, found with a shield-shaped pendant, is illustrated by Ashley (2002: fig. 13, no. 105). The association with shield-shaped pendants suggests such hangers date from the 13th to 14th century.
