A Medieval copper-alloy pendent loop.
The piece takes the form of an openwork quatrefoil, with sides of rectangular section. The uppermost lobe of the quatrefoil extends to a flat-topped, circular-sectioned bar.
Length: 16.9mm; width: 15.2mm; thickness: 3.1mm; weight: 1.41g.
Bar mounts with pendent loops were found in excavations in London, in layers dating from late 13th to 14th centuries (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 219/fig. 138, cf. no. 1189). They were probably attached to belts, allowing articles to be suspended from them.
