A cast copper-alloy mount or strap fitting of uncertain Roman or later date. It has an oval shaped plate that is slightly concave on its back face, with an old break at the attachment end. At each end of the plate are single central rivet holes, one of which (nearest the frame/bar end) retains a separately cast copper-alloy rivet with dome-shaped head. At the frame/bar end the plate folds backwards forming a double lug, perhaps incomplete on its back face. The remains of a heavily corroded iron bar are present in the lug, but the precise form of the attachment at this end is uncertain due to the preservation of the object. The entire object measures 42.24mm in length, 17.20mm in width, 3.07mm in thickness, and 7.45g in weight.
This is an incomplete strap fitting or mount of uncertain date. It may have functioned as a plate for a buckle or similar item, or similarly could have served as a belt or box fitting to enable a separate component to hinge or hang. This object might date as early as the Roman period, however a later date is perhaps more plausible and cannt be ruled until a close parallel is identified.
