A Post-Medieval gold finger-ring. The interior of the hoop has the upper-case inscription '* YOVRES TYL DEATH'. The outside of the hoop is decorated with a scroll motif which was probably once enamelled.
Dimensions:
Weight: 1.39 g
Diameter: 19.14 mm
Thickness: 0.60 mm
Discussion: A finger-ring on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database (SUSS-3D38A5, Treasure reference 2012 T555) has a similar inscription in lower-case 'I am yours til death' and dates to the 17th to 18th century. The upper-case inscription on the Dowgate finger-ring however, indicates an earlier date (16th to 17th century).
Conclusion: This object is made from at least 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old and therefore qualifies as Treasure as defined by the Treasure Act 1996.
