The tag is broadly oval in plan view and D-shaped in section. The egg-shaped body of the mount is convex in shape with a hollow reverse. The mount is flanked with a round attachment loop on either side, and a third round attachment loop from the bottom centre. The internal diameter of the attachment perforations is approximately 2.7mm. There is a sub rectangular loop (fastener) with a sub rectangular perforation, this would have held the hook in place. There is no surface decoration on the front or reverse of the mount.
The hook measures 30.1 mm in length and is 23.5 mm wide. It has a thickness of 6.03 mm (the metal is 1.8 mm thick), and weighs 3.8 g.
The hook is a dark brown in colour with an even patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
The hooked tag is similar in style to those classified as an Early Post Medieval blunt hooked clasp, Class A, Type 2 (Read, 2008, page 168, illustrations 625-627). These are considered to be of 16th to 17th Centuries dating.
