A silver Medieval coin; continental sterling imitation (a crockard) of John II of Avesnes, count of Hainaut (1280-1304), count of Holland (1299-1304). It was minted at Mons (present-day Belgium), and dates from about 1290-1300. See Mayhew number 34 (or 159-160) as cited in Withers (forthcoming). The coin is 19.8mm diameter, 0.7mm thick and 1.21g.
