An incomplete lead or lead alloy toy whirligig or buzz disc of Post Medieval dating (circa AD 1600 - AD 1900).
The whirligig consists of a flat disc of sheet lead or lead alloy metal, with a serrated edge. The toy has five string holes (two complete, three incomplete) which are circular in shape and drilled from both sides. Originally fifteen (15) triangular spokes/teeth were present, now four survive complete. The rest are incomplete or broken off.
It has a diameter of 33.4 mm and is 1.4 mm thick. The string holes have an internal diameter of 2.9 mm. It weighs 5.0 g.
The whirligig is an off white to mid grey colour, with an even surface patina.
Several similar whirligigs have been recorded on the PAS database, including: WMID-7AC2E3, WMID-046c16, NMS-2C91DS, GLO-7194F8, IOW-41FB50.
