An incomplete copper alloy openwork artefact, of uncertain function and dating, but possibly either Early Medieval or Post Medieval in dating.

The artefact is sub rectangular in shape and flat. Decoration is only present on the front of the artefact, the reverse is undecorated. The decoration is openwork, consisting of two strand interlocked in a knot style design. Both ends are incomplete. One side consists of a rectangular bar which could have been part of the attachment. The other end would have continued with the openwork decoration.

It measures 25.8 mm in length, 10.7 mm wide and 2.5 mm thick. It weighs 1.7 g.

The artefact is a mid green colour, with an even surface patina.

At the time of recording, no definite identification to this artefact has been determined. It is possibly part of an openwork buckle frame, such as that published as no 686 in Whitehead, 2003, p 107, and considered to be of Post Medieval dating (AD 1720s to AD 1790s), or it could be part of an openwork strap end, of 11th Century dating such as SUR-D38E82.
