POT BOILER

Unique ID: PUBLIC-9CFE3B

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A sub-ovoid piece of burnt flint/chert, possibly used as a pot boiler and of possible prehistoric date. The flint has lost most of the external crazed surface due to weathering, but a small area remains next to the surviving cortex. The object has a greyish/white patina with a strip of brown/grey cortex. Length of flint: 45.15 mm. Width: 43.77 mm. Thickness; 31.27 mm. Weight: 65 grams.

FLO comment: The evidence for such stones having been used as pot boilers is limited, and this may simply be an accidentally burned stone.
