Unique ID: SUSS-0CE9E7

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

An early Neolithic leaf-shaped flint arrowhead (circa 3500-2900 BC. This arrowhead has been bifacially worked (worked on both sides), so therefore no cortex remains and there is no evidence of the bulb of percussion. The arrowhead has been worked to a point, to be used as a projectile. There is evidence of retouch along the edges. The arrowhead is complete and is still quiet sharp. The flint has a light brownish-grey patina with patches of white.

Leaf-shaped arrowheads are characteristic of the early Neolithic. Barbed-and-tanged arrowheads came into use during the Beaker period of the early Bronze Age. Chisel or Oblique arrowheads were not made until the later Neolithic.
