Lilly Chitty Collection
A Neolithic fabricator (4,000 to 2,500 BC), dark grey in colour with some lighter patches nearer the proximal end.
This piece is sub-rectilinear in plan, tapering to a point at the distal end, and sub-triangular in section. It is the result of an overshoot termination taken from a core, with 4 main facets on the dorsal face, 2 of which run the entire length of this piece, the remaining 2 being located one above the other. The 2 sides of the proximal to medial region have signs of retouch, the one being manufactured into a scraping edge, whereas the other edge could have been utilised as a blade. The proximal end of this fabricator shows some signs of wear, however the striking point is still visible and has not been worn away, so the lifespan of this tool may not have lasted very long.
This piece weighs 10.8 grams, measuring 60.1mm in length, 16.9mm in width and 11.9mm in thickness.
