An incomplete lead-alloy spoon of post-Medieval date.
Only the upper part of the bowl survives; this bowl has flaring sides, flat surfaces and two straight breaks at the base, at least one of which appears to be a cut mark. The remaining length of stem has a circular cross section and tapers slightly, towards the point of the break. At the base of the stem there is a male mask, with moulded ridges for the nose, eyebrows and moustache, pellets for the eyes an incuse mouth and jutting lower lip. Additionally, there are striations on one of the edges of the bowl, which may be designed to represent a beard. The reverse of the spoon has an unidentified, linear, moulding at the junction between the bowl and stem.
Stylistically, the decoration on this spoon bears a resemblance to that seen on the contemporary stoneware ' Bellarmine jugs, of which PAS record SUR-CDA28E is an example.
