The tip of a Middle- Late Bronze Age spearhead, about a half to a third may survive with the rest lost to a very worn break. The spearhead appears to have a leaf shaped blade with the sides angling out from the tip, initially as straight lines then becoming convex curved and then possibly starting to narrow before the break, althogh this narrowing may be a illusion created by the chipped edges. A prominent raised circular sectioned midrib runs longitudinally down the centre of each face, all the way to the tip. It is hollow at the break but filled with compacted mud so it is not clear how deep it is. The edges bevel and cutting edge appear to be lost down both edges to old breaks. The remaining fragment is 68.2mm long, 27.8mm wide, 12.3mm including the midrib and weighs 27.48g. It is very worn and chipped with areas of bright green corrosion.
The diagnostic end of the socket and in particular the way it was attached to the shaft is unclear from this fragment, meaning it cannot be categorised exactly. The shape of the tip suggests that this is probably a leaf shaped socketed spear head with a circular midrib section, indicating it is a Middle Bronze Age side-looped or basal-looped example or a Late Bronze Age pegged example. These date from the Acton Park to Ewart Park phases, c.1500-800 BC.
