A complete copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is a double looped asymmetrical shape with moulded decoration on the loops. The outer edge of the rectangular loop bears six lobed knops and two further knops are also present at symmetrical points on the outer edge. Lobed protrusions also project from either end of the strap bar. The pin no longer remains.
The metal has a shiny grey patina and is worn. The buckle is 24.8mm long, 19.2mm wide, 2.4mm thick and weighs 2.7g.
A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, p.92, no.577 and is dated to circa AD 1575 - 1700.
