A Medieval copper-alloy strap mount.
The mount takes the form of a domed sexfoil, made from sheet metal, with a hollow underside. Diffuse ridges separate the petals from one another and the outer edge is scalloped. Two copper-alloy rivets are contained within holes at opposing points in the mount. One of these rivets retains a ring-shaped 'stop'.
Diameter: 19.1mm; height: 7.2mm. Weight: 1.96g.
Similar mounts were found in excavations in London, in layers dating from the late 13th to mid 15th centuries (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 187 - 188/fig. 119, cf. nos. 959, 961, 974, 983 and 987).
