An incomplete lead steelyard weight of uncertain date. The weight is bi-conical with traces of iron corrosion at the opposing points ndicating an iron core. The metal is a mid greyish-brown colour and is worn.
The weight is 23.8mm long, 27.7mm in diameter and weighs 74.62 grams.
Lead steelyard weights are difficult to date with any certainty and are known to have been in use from the Roman to post-medieval period. While the majority with iron cores seem to be dated to the Roman period, without a secure archaeological context it is not possible to definitively date such objects.
