An incomplete copper alloy early-medieval/late Anglo-Saxon (AD c.750-c.1000) strap end, missing split attachement end and an unknown length of its body. It can be categorised as a Thomas Class A, Type 2: Patterned strap end (Thomas, G., 'Late Anglo-Saxon and Viking-Age strap-ends 750-1100: Part 1', FRG AD700-1700 Datasheet 32, p.2). Overall, the strap end measures 29.7mm long, 14.2mm wide and 2.0mm thick. It weighs 2.73g. The surviving end of the strap end is triangular. The wide end has a very worn break. The narrow end has a zoomorphic terminal. The front face of the strap end is decorated at the wide end with a central pair of incised longitudinal lines flanked by four incised crescents on each side. The zoomorphic terminal shows an en-face animal head, represented with a moulded narrow snout, triangular bulging eyes or ears and a triangular forehead.
