A complete lead or lead alloy token of the Medieval to Post Medieval period (AD 1400 - AD 1800). The obverse depicts five raised lines with are separating the circle into five segments (Powell Type 3). The reverse is undecorated. The casting sprue is still present as a sub rectangular knop at the top of the token.
The token has a diameter of 24.3 mm (including the casting knop and 20.4 mm without the casting knop). It has a thickness of 3.1 mm. It weighs 7.1 g.
The token is a mid grey in colour with an even patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil has resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
Lead tokens are a frequently occurring find, with a variety of different designs. Tokens like this, were used as tallies or as replacement low denomination coinage during the Medieval and Post Medieval periods.
