A complete but slightly distorted silver stud fastener, possibly a cuff link or button of Post-Medieval date. The object consists of two sheet plates of silver joined together at the centre of each reverse by an integral shank. The reverse plate is circular and has a maker's mark, possibly [.]R within an oval cartouche. The front plate is octagonal in plan and is slightly smaller than the reverse plate. It is convex at the front and concave at the rear. At the centre is a poorly executed incised flower motif which has four main petals. The style of the flower motif is similar to those often portrayed on eighteenth century cuff links and buttons, and a number of similar items have been recorded on this database, for example CAM-6B31D6, CAMHER-9C1383 and IOW-3DC202, the latter being an almost identical comparision to that recorded here. These cuff or stud links date from the late 17th to 18th century, and as it cannot be securely dated to pre-2014, does not fall under the Treasure Act 1996.
