An incomplete copper-alloy Anglo-Saxon wrist clasp of Hines form B12. Only part of the bar and hook survives the remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn.
The bar is straight and rectangular in form and section. There are the remains of two flat rectangular panels connected by narrowed rectangular bars. The front face of the bars are decorated with transverse grooves. Projecting from the central panel is the remains of an integrally cast hook. This is rectangular before terminating in old breaks. The back face is flat and undecorated.
This sleeve claps measures 24.17mm in length, 10.39mm in width, 2.97mm in thickness, 2.23g in weight.
This is the catch-piece from an Anglo-Saxon wrist clasp. The use of a straight bar with now missing integrally cast sewing lugs indicates that it belongs to Hines' Form B12, which is datable to the late-5th to 6th centuries AD (Hines, 1993: 46-49). There is a similar example recorded on the PAS database (SF-595A75).
