Post medieval copper alloy hooked mount of 16th - 17th century date
The mount is near-complete (with an overall length of 38.6mm and a weight of 7.3g) but appears to have been of composite type with a ferrous back-plate now largely lost. The rearward-facing sub-circular hook (9mm diameter, 5.0mm internal) is open at the rear with only a very small opening. There is a transverse rib above the hook and before the convex oval body (giving the mount a maximum width of 12.1mm and thickness of 6.0mm). At the apex is a pointed oval terminal separated from the body with a weaker transverse rib. An iron attachment pin is secured through the terminal, which may have been integral to the plate. The mount appears to also have been secured by an integral copper alloy attachment rivet above the hook. The surface has a pale-green corrosion and no applied decoration is evident.
