An incomplete copper-alloy Roman bow brooch of Colchester-derivative rear hook type. Only the wings, rear hook and part of the bow survive, the remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn.
The wings are semi-cylindrical in form. Their front face is decorated with a series of transverse grooves. Above the wings is a rear hook. This extends onto top of the bow where it develops into a central longitudinal groove before terminating in old breaks. The bow is D-shaped in section with flat back and rounded front face.
This bow brooch measures 23.87mm in length, 26.62mm in width at the wings, 9.47mm in width at the bow, 5.29mm in thickness, 9.91g in weight.
There is a similar example recorded by Hattatt (Hattatt, 1989, pp. 298, no. 884).
