A complete, Medieval, cast, copper alloy, large size and heavy thimble. This is a closed thimble with tapering sides and domed crown. There are irregular, relatively large and spaced out hand-punched indentations all the way down to a narrow plain band around the base and a plain circular patch on the apex where the indentations start in a spiral all the way down. There appears to be little wear and an attractive chocolate brown patina with just a few small areas of a pale green verdigris corrosion which does continue more so on the inside. This thimble is likely to date from 1350-1450. Ref.
