A cast copper alloy trade weight dating from the post-Medieval period, about AD 1649 - 1660. It is a flat, circular weight, dished on the upper side with a shallow, broad projecting rim and a small, circular central depression. It carries two marks, the ewer of the Founders Company at six o'clock and the shield of St. George at 1 o'clock. The City of London's mark of the sword of St. Paul is absent from this example. The underside is plain. The weight has a light green patina. It is 21.4mm in diameter and 3.1mm thick. It weighs 5.86gm (0.21oz). It was porbably intended to be a 1/4 ounce weight.
In an article written by Norman Biggs and published by the British Numismatic Society, Biggs says "There is firmer evidence about maker's marks from the Commonwealth period. At this time the Founder's Company continued to exercise its functions regarding the stamping of weights, the royal mark being replaced by the shield of St. George."
