A flint tranchet axehead or pick of Mesolithic date, about 9000 BC - 4000 BC. It is formed on opaque yellow grey flint. It is sub-rectangular in plan with one rounded end and slightly convex sides. It is a thick oval in section. Both sides are covered with large flaked removals, leaving no cortex. A fresh notch in the working end is probably later damage. The proximal end is an oblique, lozenge shaped platform. The pick is 129.2mm long, 34.8mm wide and 28mm thick. 139g. Edge dmage shows that the pick was used, but this sort of tool is also found deposited in graves (Jason Dodds, pers. comm. 2/12/14).
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
