Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Polden Hill type with flat wing ends, of 1st or 2nd century AD date.
The brooch is fragmentary represented by the head and the top of the bow only (with a surviving length of 20.5mm, a surviving depth of 11.7mm and a weight of 10.9g). The spring remains in place, secured between lateral lugs, which are angled inwards (with a width of 29.2mm). The chord is broken but is present, dislodged from its damaged lug on the head. The fronts of the wings are decorated with vertical grooves and ribs, now corroded and worn. The top of the bow is of D-shaped section with straight sides converging to the break. Prominent grooved borders decorated the bow but all other decoration is now worn and corroded. Traces of dark-green patina are evident but the surface has a pale-green and brown corrosion.
