A gold finger ring with distorted hoop of 'D-shaped' section, widening from the back to the bezel. Each shoulder is decorated by a series of longitudinal grooves, and there is a grooved central ridge which, at the non-bezel end, terminates in a fork with projecting, tapering groove. The box bezel is now empty, the sides flaring towards the open top. Each of the setting's two longer faces has a line of sub-oval perforations, now worn thin, which would once have contained enamel.
Length (bezel to back of hoop): 21.4mm; width: 23.25mm. Weight: 2.21g.
A ring with similar bezel to this example is Treasure case 2002 T85, from Roundway, Wiltshire, which was dated to the 17th century. The grooved shoulders and box bezel are also paralleled by another 17th century ring, 2002 T137, from Bilborough, N. Yorks.
