An incomplete cast copper alloy sword belt hanger of Post-Medieval date, (AD 1600-1700). The object consists of an asymmetrical, curvilinear attachment plate with a trilobed outer knop at each end, one of which is incomplete. The main plate has a moulded relief floriate and foliate decoration and bears two rivet holes - one in the centre of the plate and the second at the remaining terminal end, which are infilled with iron corrosion. An incomplete rivet hole at the opposite end of the plate terminates with a break. The lower edge of the mount extends into three integral suspension eyes which are complete.
Within one suspension eye a complete foliate plate with a forward-facing hook remains. The hook has a globular end to keep it in place. The suspended plate has moulded relief foliate decoration and bears two rivet holes, infilled with iron corrosion. The two other eyes contain a forward facing, globular ended hook, one of which is twisted to the side and one of which faces upwards.
Two other relief moulded foliate plates containing two corroded rivet holes each are present and separate and appear to have been detached from their hooks in recent times, probably due to the plough. The rear of the object is undecorated and it has a mid-dark green patina.
A similar example can be found in Read, (2008), p220, no. 793 and has been dated to the 16th century.
