A cast copper alloy casket key of probable early Post-Medieval date. It has a kidney-shaped bow with two internal projections opposite the connection with the shank and corrosion filling the space between the projections. The shank is solid and oval in section with three collars by the connection with the bow. At the end of the shank is a blunt ended projecting pin and before that a simple rectangular bit. The key measures 32.4mm by 16.7mm by 4.6mm thick and weighs 3.87g.
Several similar keys are illustrated by Read (2001: 67-8, 73, fig. 47, no.564-567) and dated to the 16th century.
