An incomplete tinned copper alloy Roman trumpet headed brooch dating to the period c. AD 50 - 150. The head features an integral lug projecting from the reverse for the iron sprung pin mechanism. The pin is missing. The remains of the spring and axis bar are visible as corroded iron around the lug. The head is decorated with two crescent shaped grooves on either side of the head. The bow arches upwards and features a degraded acanthus moulded knop about halfway along its length. The leg tapers to the moulded foot which consists of a knob divded horizontally into two moulded ridges. The tinning is only visible in the mouldings.
The brooch measures 47.87mm in length, 10.76mm maximum width, 4.17mm minimum width, is 7.53mm thick and weighs 13.88g.
