Circumstances of Find
Found with the use of a metal detector in 2014. Coins were scattered in top soil over a large area.
Another hoard was previously found on the same field in 2013 (2013 T221 'Holt') with an addenda found in 2014 (2014 T962). Although the present hoard is very similar in its composition to the previous one, it was found sufficiently far away (and also on a slightly different alignment) for it to be likely to be a separate deposit.
Description of Find
The earlier coin in the find is a coin of Valerian I (AD 253-260). The latest are two coins struck in AD 281-282, at the end of the reign of Probus (AD 276-282). Most of the coins are dating to the period AD 260-274 when the Empire was divided between the Gallic empire, whose capital was at the city of Trier but which had held dominion over Britain, and the legitimate ('central') Empire in AD 274.
