An incomplete, corroded and misshapen post-Medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped asymmetrical buckle (c.1575-c. 1700).

The pin is missing.

This buckle is convex at the front and flat at the rear. It has a rectangular loop and a smaller 'D'-shaped loop. Integral with the outer edge of the smaller loop is a lozenge-shaped projection with lozenge shaped openwork in the centre. The outer edge of the larger loop has two transverse grooves. The narrowed strap bar is sub-square in cross-section. At each end of the bar there is a small pointed knop.

This buckle frame is corroded overall and has traces of gilding at the front. There are flecks of iron staining on the bar and both faces.

Length: 26.6mm; width: 16.0mm; thickness: 2.9mm. Weight: 1.73g.

A buckle in similar style has been published and dated c. 1575-1700 (Whitehead 2003: 93, ref: 593).
