A cast copper alloy strap fitting; a sword belt fitting of Post-Medieval date, probable AD 1600 - 1700. It consists of a triangular plate that tapers to a broad, curved hook extending backwards with a blunt point. The plate is slightly curved, being concave on the underside and convex on the front. There is a V shaped notch in the end of the plate opposite the hook. There is no decoration. The remains of two ferrous rivets remain in place, one at each end of the plate. The fitting has a rough, dark brown patina. It is 31.3mm long, 12.6mm wide and 8.6mm thick. It weighs 2.72gm.
Similar fittings can be found on the database: compare for example SUR-5C1AE2, SUR-D381A2 and NLM-17B67C. This last cites Read, 2001, Metal Artefacts of Antiquity, and attributes this mount to the seventeenth century.
