A cast copper alloy annular buckle / brooch of 13th to 14th century date.
The buckle is of annular type and is complete. The annular frame is circular in plan and of faceted, oval section. There is no discernible decoration on either face of the frame. There is no constriction for the pin on the frame but there is a notch. The pin is present (with a length of 15.93mm) and of consistent D-shaped section with its loop simply wrapped around the frame. The surface has a dark-brown patina.
Egan & Pritchard (1991, p 64-5) noted the difficulty of distinguishing plain annular brooches from buckles and decided to use the presence of a pin restriction on the frame to identify a brooch, categorising this example as a buckle.
