A copper alloy chape dating to either the late medieval or early post medieval periods, c. AD 1400 to 1600.
The object is sub-triangular in plan creating a point which has a small knop at the end. The opposite side has a small sub-circular cutaway which is slightly recessed creating a collared effect. The back of the object is concave suggesting another plate would have been attached to create a hollow to hold the blade.
A similar and more complete object has been recorded on the PAS database, see for example KENT-E4F07E.
