Copper alloy button. Cast composite plano-convex uniform button, possibly maritime in this case. The front bears the motif of a flag on its flagstaff modelled in prominent relief; the flag is in this case probably charged with a saltire, and appears against a finely horizontally lined ground and is framed by a thick cabled rim. This device was adapted for the uniform buttons of various corporate and institutional bodies. Indistinct makers' details appear on the back, where a drawn wire loop projects.
