A fragment of a copper-alloy suspension mount for a harness pendant dating to the late second or third century AD. The fragment comprises a rectangular bar which is hemispherical in section, terminating in two rounded knops. The upper surface of the bar is decorated with seven vertical grooves. On the underside of the bar, there extends a single circular-section lug which is positioned at one end where the bar narrows to form one of the end knop. At the other end, there is a small raised scar of metal, suggesting that there may have been an identical lug positioned there, or perhaps a miscast. From the bar, there also extend two pierced, circular lugs. Between the lugs is small strip of copper-alloy held in place by an axis bar, all that remains of a hinged fitting. The mount measures 12mm in length, 27mm in width and 4mm in thickness. The lug measures 1mm in diameter and 6mm in length. The mount weighs 4.8 grams. See Cat No. 450 from Pfunz for an example where the pendant is still attached to the suspension mount (Oldenstein 1976, 255, Taf 45).
