A complete post-Medieval sheet copper-alloy closed thimble (1730-1800).
This thimble has a thickened rim, sloping sides and a domed crown. It has circumferential horizontal lines of sub-circular indentations on the walls and square indentations in a grid pattern on the crown. The rim is plain.
This thimble has a dark brown patina and there are small areas of corrosion on the rim.
Height: 15.1mm; width: 16.7mm; thickness: 14.4mm; thickness of rim: 0.9mm. Weight: 2.56g.
A similar thimble has been published (Holmes 1988: 3-4, fig. 7c, Type III).
