A very worn and incomplete Roman bow brooch, possibly a Langton Down or similar, although its precise form is uncertain due to old breaks. The brooch has an incomplete cylindrical spring casing, folded to encase the now missing spring. The bow is rectangular in form and oval in section, tapering to worn old breaks that give it a triangular appearance. At the head oft he bow is a slight oval shaped projection, perhaps an element of decoration but its precise form is now uncertain due to the preservation of the object. It measures 24.82mm in length, 17.88mm in width at spring casing, 7.54mm in width at bow, 4.06mm in thickness at bow, and 4.42g in weight.
This is an incomplete Roman bow brooch. Its precise form is uncertain due to the preservation of the object, although it is probably of Langton Down, Rosette or similar form. As such it is of probable 1st century AD date, c.25-100 AD.
