Copper alloy Barrel Tap fragment. Tapered cylindrical strainer with 16 holes drilled in four lines along its sides and three holes in its flat end; the other end is open. The object has fluted sides which would enhance its grip when hammered into the tap hole of a barrel. The holes are intended to prevent detritus at the bottom of the barrel from being drawn off when the barrel tap was operated. One side of the wider end is thinned by wear, presumably occasioned by the recurrent insertion of the tap at from the same angle or from its use. Suggested date: Post-Medieval to Modern, 1850-1950.

Length: 42.2mm, Diameter: 18.3mm, Thickness (wall): 2.7mm, Weight: 26.92gms.

Class: Barrel
